Universe Compare Tool Progress Report
I have had a number of questions or requests related to the release date for my universe compare tool that I demonstrated at the SAP BusinessObjects User Conference last month in Orlando. I am happy to report that I have almost completed the “digging out from under” process that occurs every year after the conference season, and hope to be able to finalize the initial release. All I have to do is remove the logic that checks for object incompatibilities (related to Aggregate Navigation) as large universes contain too much data to fit in a standard (old version) spreadsheet.
Once that is complete, I will release the initial version here on my blog. I anticipate at this time that I will be able to do this early in December. Thanks for your patience.
Dave,
Will your tool work on linked universes? As you may know, there are a number of things that don’t come through the link – in particular Context. I’ve worked with a set of universes where the only difference was the data connection (one for each client) – the structures are exactly the same. We can’t use security to change the connection because we need to be able to do consolidated reporting across multiple clients. I ran into issues with various things I looked at because they wouldn’t open both the “master” and a linked universe at the same time or they wouldn’t open more than one universe based on the same master at the same time.
Thanks!

Hi, Dell, I have not tested it on linked universes yet.
Hi Dave,
Its been a month and I have been waiting to read something..anything…that you would post…but it seems your are busy with somthing very important..or may be started with your christmas decorations!
Anything you would want to share about BI 4.0?
I have been swamped working nights and weekends to complete a project before the end of the year. As a result, there hasn’t been any time for blog posts, or for a release of this utility. đ
Dave, I am eagerly awaiting a version of the “unv diff app”. Any updates on avaialability – thanks Tim
Folks : please stop hunting Dave. He already explained why things are delayed.
Any updates ??
Hi Dave,
Was going through the IDT documentation;came across a functionality “Project Syncronisation” was curious about how it would be different from your âUniverse Compare Toolâ?
The document says
Nitin, I am afraid that I don’t really know the answer to your question. I have not had a chance to install or play with BI 4.0 at all yet.
Any release dates yet in 2011 ?
Any news on the availability on the Univere Compare Tool ?
we can find the similar tool at saama site…the only thing is we have to pay $ for the tool…eagerly waiting for Dave’s tool features.
I’ve converted it to XI 3.1. On large universes it runs out of memory, but I hope to post what we’ll call a “beta” version shortly. Thanks for your patience.
Dave, thanks that will be awesome to enjoy the “Beta” version.
Any progrss on the “Beta”
Sorry meant “Progress on the Beta”
Hi,
Is the tool ready please Dave. If it is ready could you please provide a link where we can download it
Thanks
Hi, please see this post for more information, thanks.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. This post discusses GPL. No sure what is the relation with the Universe Diff tool
Thanks again
I understand that there are copyrights on the tool and I would like to know where we can find it if we would like to purchase it
Thanks
Mounir –
Dave related his GPL post to the fact that that’s the license under which he will be releasing his Universe diff tool next week. So that’s your answer to your question about when you might be able to download it ;>
It’s not for sale, it will be a free download.
Thanks a lot for your answer.
please let us know when it is released
Thanks
Hi Dave, will this work with Designer 6.5? I am receiving a âcompile error â canât find project or library,â then âMISSING: Business Objects Designer 12.0 Object Library.â Yes, we are on 6.5âŚ.and thank you so much for all your work and sharing.
(Note – your downloaded .xls points to a differnt page, where I also submitted this question. Hopefully this time, I have posted on the correct page…..)
Please post your question here: http://www.dagira.com/dagira-universe-compare-tool/
I updated the page so the link in the XLS works correctly now, thanks for letting me know about that link problem.
